- Instead of buying new bottles of juice every time we go grocery shopping, we now buy frozen juices, which cuts back drastically on packaging. And we recycle the packaging that they come in. We've also stopped buying paper towels altogether in favor of regular, reusable towels.

Great contest! Good way to share ideas.
I have finally used up all my started store (fund raising) bought wrapping paper, which is not always easily recyclable. Why? Many of the store bought wrapping papers are made of combinations of materials, which can't be separated easily to recycle.
I wrap all my gifts in newspaper (comics add color), fabric (scarves, pillow cases, old clothing, etc.), bubble wrap, which came with something sent to me, or I do not wrap the gift at all, if the packaging is good enough. My last gift given to a young child child was put in a Hello Kitty purse (I bet Mommyhood is thankless would have liked it) which was purchased from the Salvation Army for $2.99, Inside went 3 items; Chico reusable bag, natural toothpaste and a Recycline Preserve toothbrush.
Info on toothbrush found on environment.about.com/:
Recycline Preserve toothbrush designed by dentists, is made out of polypropylene plastic that has been recycled from used Stonyfield Yogurt cups. When a Preserve toothbrush reaches the end of its effective life, consumers can either put it out on the curb in the blue bin with other recyclables (if your community offers #5 plastics recycling), or send it back to Recycline in a postage-paid envelope supplied to you with your purchase. It will then likely be reborn again as raw material for a picnic table, deck, boardwalk or other durable long-lasting product.
Cheers~
Pottery is my weakness. Gorgeous bowl! The color matches my kitchen. The wine angles are very unique, also! Our family made a commitment
early in the year to become more green. We turned down the temperature on our water heater and take shorter showers. The thermostat is turned up in the summer and will be turned down during the winter months. Instead of just making a car trip for one errand, we wait until we have several errands to run! I guess that is a pretty good beginning. Thanks for a delightful giveaway drawing. Cindi

We bought a water purifier pitcher and now keep tap water in the fridge so instead of opening bottled water we can pour a cold glass whenever we want. We also fill up reusable cups and bottles to take with us to cut down on the waste, too.
Thanks for the giveaway, gorgeous serving bowl and wine angles!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com
We have cut back on paper towels and napkins and are using cloth towels instead.
Love these!!! Well, we have been doing many things for quite some time, but my latest venture has been using my scraps and now coke cans and paper bags and junk mail to create upcycled journals and other upcycled art items. I am loving it because the stuff looks SO cool and it keeps the trash out of the landfills! I am not a follower of your blog! Thanks for the giveaway!
Do I need to post again to tell you that I'm a follower? LOL! Well, here you go! I did! LOL!
I recently purchased several canvas grocery bags to use rather
than the plastic bags when shopping.
Thanks,

We have been collecting cans for the school.
thanks for the try
We just bought an energy saving fridge and dish washer, they both have green settings that save energy and water, we may even get to write them off on our taxes, YAY!
Hello!
I bought one of your Double Twist stools and a Buddha panel. I have received so many compliments on the pieces. I am looking forward to adding more.
For bloggers who do not know why the pieces are eco-friendly/green:
My stool and panel are made out of the limb of the tree. The tree is not cut down and will continue living for many years. I could not believe that limbs of trees could get so big! The finishes are non toxic as well.
Hope I win the beautiful bowl.

We replaced all our light bulbs with CFL bulbs.
One thing I've done is started to recycle again. For some reason I just stopped this summer, but after reading an article on how much it helps, I have gotten back in the swing of things.
I also buy the new eco light bulbs as needed to replace old ones.
Thanks everybody for all the great eco-friendly ideas so far! We'll do a top 20 list when the giveaway is over. Don't forget to tell your friends about the contest.

I have bought re-useable grocery bags as a start to being eco-friendly!
I made a non-working 50s blender into a lamp! Love it!

We have switched our lightbulbs and I have been making fabric grocery bags for myself and family.

Well, it's kind of a simple one but I made a holder for all of the plastic grocery bags so I can reuse them and I mostly carry groceries in tote bags when I don't have too many.
We got a front load washer to conserve water. It seems to really help.
I make my own laundry detergent.
Next up, making my own dishwasher detergent. we have a HUGE thing of cascade now, so when we run out.
But no waste and saving lots of money too! and no icky petroleum on our clothes either!

I use non paper/plastic for all shopping. Use cold water for laundry. When running water to get hot for washing dishes, I collect the cold water and use it to water my plants and animals.
I use bottles that I buy from the store and use them over again buying the little powder refills, plus I also take my cloth bag for shopping when I go to the grocery store or book store. I even use it at the Mall.

I save nearly everything in hopes of using it for a recycled crafting project. Recently I found using the old green netting from lettuce can be used to create a wonderful greenie. I add a little cotton with the netting and it makes into a cool greenie for scrubbing. Please consider me for your giveaway. Thanks.
We decided to fork over the extra cash to get the Eco Friendly light bulbs.
We are participating in Crunchy Domestic Goddess's Ditch the Disposables challenge. I am using cloth hankies instead of tissues whenever possible, and we aren't using paper towels anymore. (We already cloth diapered before it started.)
the_other_alice_(at)yahoo.com
We made a recyling area so its easier for everyone (including the little ones) to seperate trash from recyclables.
thanks

I'm using vinegar as a cleaning product whenever and wherever I can--it's a fantastic carpet cleaner when mixed with hot water! It's also great in the laundry as a fabric softener. It's the original "green" cleaning product!

Just found your site through someone that also responded to a giveaway I was doing! Great stuff!! I try to go green every little step I can. We recycle, buy organic as much as $$ allows, CFL's but my big project is y "free" 1980 mobile home, we got it free and doing a remodel, reusing, recycling and buying lightly used every chance we get!thanks!

Tote bags to use for groceries!
Well, I had no clue you had this blog, so I'll follow, put you on my blog roll, and tell you what I have done in the last 6 months to be for eco- friendly.... well, I do a lot of stuff. I've planted a butt load of trees... I quit eatting meat and my family joined me on the bandwagon (best thing you can do for our environment) I make all my food from scratch, rarely do I buy processed, I use cloth menstrual products, son uses cloth diapers, I use cloth shopping bags... listen, the list is endless. I hope that's enough :)
Yesterday I used a mixture of vinegar and water to clean my windows inside and out for fall. I'm also experimenting with making my own laundry detergent.
let's see, I compost, don't have papertowels in my home, buy organic as much as I can, homeschool my kids, use natural cleaning products and hygiene products... I use those light bulbs to... our basement was done with insulated concrete forms, more energy efficient... I planted a garden, and some fruit trees. Okay, now I'll stop
I buy the eco friendly cleaning supplies
I won a box of eco friendly light bulbs from Microsoft so now my whole house just has those. We use cloth bags for grocery shopping and I'm making my own cleaning products. Thank you!
judybrittle at aol dot com
we have swapped all of our lightbulbs for CFLs
We've stopped buying bottled water & are using refillable bottles.
We have started using reusable market bags when we go grocery shopping so we don't use plastic bags.
I either buy green cleaning supplies or make my own. It is taking forever to get rid of the old stuff though. Today I made a vinegar and water spray
I got my SO to put a large enough basket on my bike so I can carry more groceries home without having to take the car.
reusable grocery sacks, and use reusable sports bottle and coffee travel mugs more (working on remembering more consistantly!)
We've been slowly doing things to make our lives more green. Most recently, I started a compost pile.
We *finally* started using re-usable grocery bags! Woohoo!

I started cloth diapering my babies. It has saved so much time, energy,
and money to not have to go to the store and buy box after box of diapers that fill up the dump. And they are so much cuter!
We built a home, and put in an energy efficient heating system. The house is placed to obtain maximum results from solar heating. We purchase energy efficient bulbs and have cut down on waste.
Thanks for all the recent entries and comments.
Just a reminder, please leave some contact info in your posts or on your blogger profile so we can get in touch with you if you win.
Good Luck from Terra Furnishings!
We only drive one car.
We started to recycle, yes we just now started. (ashamed)
We are a little behind the times.
OK, this might be a bit gross, but we have 3 dogs and we just started getting the bio degradeable poop bags.
We have a six pack of canvas totes and now refuse plastic bags at any rettailer still using them. I love to find unique and cool totes!
To become more "eco-friendly" we have switched to eco friendly cleaning supplies as well as recycle anything we can.
Thanks!
Kendra

We've put up a clothes line and started using cloth napkins 90% of the time. We also use vinegar and baking soda for cleaning instead of chemicals, and use cloth diapers, but those aren't really new to us :)
ccswch@yahoo.com
I've switched to Green cleaning products and thrown out the paper towels...yes, thrown out!
I bought baby food "trays" to make my own, instead of buying store bought. We try to buy organic for the little guy.
We cloth diaper, but we have been doing that since my first was born.
We collected runoff water from our sump pump and used it to water flower beds this summer. Alabama drought conditions led to water restrictions which forced our family (in a good way) to think more eco-friendly.
We have changed all of our light bulbs to more energy efficient ones. We also made three boxes to recycle our plastic, glass and paper products. My children even decorated the boxes to make it more fun.
I forked over the extra cash required to have my lovely new floors done in bamboo, an eco-friendly, renewable resource.
boldnessbe(at)gmail(dot)com
we replaced our shower head!
What a beautiful bowl! I'm taking a beginners' ceramics class right now, and aspire to be that good! I've been making much more of an effort to eat locally, turn off lights and appliances, keep the AC and heat down lower. etc. Every bit helps
I started using vinegar and water solution to clean a lot of stuff. It works well and the smell fades fast!

There are a few things we have changed recently. My biggest thing, which I totally am in love with is my Bissell Steam Mop, yes I am in love with a mop! No cleaners, no bucket, no waste water, no extra cost after the initial investment and it is only water doing the cleaning, and my floors have never been so clean! We have changed to greener cleaners and are still deciding on which ones we like best. We use a green laundry detergent and biodegradable dryer sheets (who knew those regular ones never break down). As I use up my regular cleaners I replace them with greener options, the newest is EO brand for all our hand washing and hand sanitizing needs. Of course we also recycle and I got as a gift those cool Envirosax reusable grocery bags, they are so pretty and that has made me buy the Ecobags produce bags. A recent item of change has been to change to fabric napkins versus paper. Wow, I have done a lot over this last year, I am all kind of impressed with myself now, hahahaha. Also for my son I made all of his baby food and am doing the same for my daughter, at first I just did it for health reasons and then I realized how much waste I save because I don't buy all those jars of baby food, not to mention the cost.
My fiance and I purchased solar panels. We are hoping to get to the point that we ONLY use solar by 2010. That means no electricity provided by any outside company. we will get it free from teh power of the sun.
We purchased a energy saving heater so our furnace wouldn't run as much. Less energy and less gas! Thanks!
We've gotten almost completely out of the habit of using paper towels and napkins by using dishtowels, rags (aka castoff clothing cut into pieces), and cloth napkins.
We have a new compost pile and I made cloth bags to take for shopping!!!!!!!
We purchased a set of recycle bins!
We purchased a salad spinner so we can buy locally produced lettuce rather than bags of prewashed.
