Great contest! Good way to share ideas.

I have finally used up all my started store (fund raising) bought wrapping paper, which is not always easily recyclable. Why? Many of the store bought wrapping papers are made of combinations of materials, which can't be separated easily to recycle.

I wrap all my gifts in newspaper (comics add color), fabric (scarves, pillow cases, old clothing, etc.), bubble wrap, which came with something sent to me, or I do not wrap the gift at all, if the packaging is good enough. My last gift given to a young child child was put in a Hello Kitty purse (I bet Mommyhood is thankless would have liked it) which was purchased from the Salvation Army for $2.99, Inside went 3 items; Chico reusable bag, natural toothpaste and a Recycline Preserve toothbrush.

Info on toothbrush found on environment.about.com/:
Recycline Preserve toothbrush designed by dentists, is made out of polypropylene plastic that has been recycled from used Stonyfield Yogurt cups. When a Preserve toothbrush reaches the end of its effective life, consumers can either put it out on the curb in the blue bin with other recyclables (if your community offers #5 plastics recycling), or send it back to Recycline in a postage-paid envelope supplied to you with your purchase. It will then likely be reborn again as raw material for a picnic table, deck, boardwalk or other durable long-lasting product.

Cheers~

Pottery is my weakness. Gorgeous bowl! The color matches my kitchen. The wine angles are very unique, also! Our family made a commitment
early in the year to become more green. We turned down the temperature on our water heater and take shorter showers. The thermostat is turned up in the summer and will be turned down during the winter months. Instead of just making a car trip for one errand, we wait until we have several errands to run! I guess that is a pretty good beginning. Thanks for a delightful giveaway drawing. Cindi

Hello!

I bought one of your Double Twist stools and a Buddha panel. I have received so many compliments on the pieces. I am looking forward to adding more.
For bloggers who do not know why the pieces are eco-friendly/green:

My stool and panel are made out of the limb of the tree. The tree is not cut down and will continue living for many years. I could not believe that limbs of trees could get so big! The finishes are non toxic as well.

Hope I win the beautiful bowl.

Well, I had no clue you had this blog, so I'll follow, put you on my blog roll, and tell you what I have done in the last 6 months to be for eco- friendly.... well, I do a lot of stuff. I've planted a butt load of trees... I quit eatting meat and my family joined me on the bandwagon (best thing you can do for our environment) I make all my food from scratch, rarely do I buy processed, I use cloth menstrual products, son uses cloth diapers, I use cloth shopping bags... listen, the list is endless. I hope that's enough :)

Lisa Nelsen-Woods said...

Yesterday I used a mixture of vinegar and water to clean my windows inside and out for fall. I'm also experimenting with making my own laundry detergent.

let's see, I compost, don't have papertowels in my home, buy organic as much as I can, homeschool my kids, use natural cleaning products and hygiene products... There are a few things we have changed recently. My biggest thing, which I totally am in love with is my Bissell Steam Mop, yes I am in love with a mop! No cleaners, no bucket, no waste water, no extra cost after the initial investment and it is only water doing the cleaning, and my floors have never been so clean! We have changed to greener cleaners and are still deciding on which ones we like best. We use a green laundry detergent and biodegradable dryer sheets (who knew those regular ones never break down). As I use up my regular cleaners I replace them with greener options, the newest is EO brand for all our hand washing and hand sanitizing needs. Of course we also recycle and I got as a gift those cool Envirosax reusable grocery bags, they are so pretty and that has made me buy the Ecobags produce bags. A recent item of change has been to change to fabric napkins versus paper. Wow, I have done a lot over this last year, I am all kind of impressed with myself now, hahahaha. Also for my son I made all of his baby food and am doing the same for my daughter, at first I just did it for health reasons and then I realized how much waste I save because I don't buy all those jars of baby food, not to mention the cost.
